SOLDIERS’ PARCELS

Standardized Contents For 6/Several Wellington citizens have suggested to the town clerk, Mr. E. P. Norman, that it would be a great and popular convenience if standard parcels could be made up for sending to New Zealand soldiers overseas, so that all peo.ple need do would be to pay for the contents. In the past it has been found that people packing their own parcels often put in them, in all good faith, articles that were hardly likely to travel long distances, and in other cases the parcels were not as well packed as was desirable. Mr. Norman considered the idea feasible, and has lost no time in putting it into practice. He has arranged that people who wish to send parcels to soldiers (not addressed to individuals) may do so from today by the simple procedure of sending the sum of 6/- by cheque or postal Tote, or by calling at the rates office in the Town Hall, and leaving the required amount of money, for which a receipt will be given forthwith. Cheques and postal notes should be forwarded care of the city treasurer. Every six shillings so received will represent a parcel containing the following goods: One tin of 25 cigarettes, one cake of soap, one handkerchief, two safety razor blades, twelve envelopes and one writing pad, one 4oz. tin of condensed milk, one pound of preserved fruit, six ounces of barley sugar. Arrangements have been made for the efficient packing of these parcels in proper containers by patriotic workers, so that there will be no cost for that service
