WANGANUI AS PORT FOR LOADING
Board Watching Interests Dominion Special Service WANGANUI, June IS. “'Though there have been rumours of centralization of shipping and the elimination of Wanganui as a. loading port for overseas vessels, no finality has been reached,” said the chairman of the Wangajiui Harbour Board, Mr. N. G. Anmstroug, today, in reply to an inquiry about the position. The suggestion that shipping might be centralized arose out of a statement made by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Nash, emphasizing the need for a speedy “turn-round” of ships carrying supplies for Great Britain, and gave rise to a suggestion that the ix>rts which would be used for shipping overseas produce would be Auckland, New Plymouth, 'Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, Port Chalmers, and Bluff. Mr. Armstrong said the harbour board was watching Hie inleresite of V.'anganui. and had made representations to the Governnient to guard against the possibility of trade being taken away from Wanganui.
