WAYS TO INCREASED PRODUCTION
44-Hour Week Proposed Dominion Special Service. HASTINGS, June IS. A. recommendation that legislation be introduced, purely as a war-emergency measure, for the substitution of the 40hour week with a 44-hour week is to lie forwarded by tile Hastings Chamber of Commerce to the Associated Chambers for representations to be made to the Governnient. Members felt that there was a. need for increased hours of work so that there could be increased production. .Members decided to ask if the New Zealand Government know exactly of wlurt the Imperial Government was in immediate need, so that steps could be taken for New Zealand to devote its war efforts by increased production along the lines best suited to provide Hie Old Country with ils pressing needs.. It was felt, that there should bo proper co-ordination of the resources of the countr.v to ensure Hurt what Britain was in urgent, need of should be provided rather than lo direct efforts .■Hong lines that would produce a commodity the need for winch was not so urgent.
