BROADCAST DEBATES
Speeches In Parliament And The War
Reference to the broadcasting of debates from the House of Representatives in the light of the new situation caused by the war was made yesterday by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser. “The question of broadcasting of all debates in the House, Including those during which New Zealand’s war effort would be under close discussion and analysis, does constitute a difficulty, because of the risk of information useful to the enemy being broadcast beyond these shores,” said the Prime Minister. Mr. Fraser added that he had no doubt that the common sense of Parliament would overcome the difficulty. “The broadcasting of Parliament has been most popular over the whole Dominion,” he said, “and it would constitute a real hardship if it were terminated or even suspended. I believe that arrangements can be made that will be both satisfactory and safe.”
