GOVERNMENT COURT PACKING UP

A week has seen enormous strides in the demolition of the Centennial Exhibition. The outsides of the buildings and the grounds remain practically untouched, but on entering any of the courts a tremendous change is seen. Many of the stalls have completely disappeared, and those which remain are gutted of furnishings, fittings and contents.

In Playland the demolition of the devices has begun; the sideshows are packing up to go elsewhere, and many of the stall-holders have already departed with all their goods and chattels.

Orderly and methodical demolition is taking place in the Government Court, where most of the small departmental exhibits have been removed and the packing and shifting of the more massive articles is now going ahead. The cinema theatrette has been converted to a store. The ramp at the east door has been cut away to make a platform where lorries can back up to load heavy eases. Careful check is being kept of all exhibits taken away representatives of the various departments superintending their respective packings. The Army and Navy displays are already gone, the education section’s many handicraft specimens are being packed, the beautiful miniature landscape of the railway exhibit, its track already torn up, is being dismantled. Yesterday preparations were being made for the removal of the con-trol-box, which is to be used to work a full-size railway yard somewhere on the East Coast line.

In the Dominion Court, the removal of valuable models is being carried out. though as yet the broad landscapes have not been pulled down.
