Night Flight By R.A.F. AIR ENGAGEMENT ON BRITISH COAST Nazi Raider Damaged (British Ollieial Wireless and Press Assn.) (Received March 17, 7.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 16. The Air Ministry announced: “During the past 24 hours air reconnaissance activities included an extensive night flight over Polish territory by aircraft of the R.A.F. Bomber Command, and an engagement between aircraft of the Coastal Command and an enemy bomber. During a running fight, in which the enemy was repeatedly attacked, damage was seen to be inflicted. The enemy aircraft finally escaped in clouds.” “Aircraft of the Bomber Command carried out. reconnaissances over Heligoland Bight this morning. Oilposition wa.s experienced from enemy fighters and anti-aircraft ground defences. Our aircraft completed their tasks and returned safely.” Berlin states that the German enforce reconnoitred eastern France and the entire North Sea, and attacked British patrol boats, sinking one and damaging another. There is no confirmation in London of this claim. A message from Prague says that last night’s anniversary celebrations in Prague, officially marking the formation of the Czech protectorate, ended with a sudden blackout, presumably owing to a visit by British airmen.
