The New Zealand junior and women’s amateur athletic championships opened at Rugby Park this afternoon in warm, north-west weather with a strong breeze assisting sprinters and hurdlers. Heats only were decided. The finals take place tomorrow. Results: — 220 Yards. —First heat; H. Potter (Wellington), 1; D. K. Carew (Auckland), 2; C. R. Bailey (Canterbury), 3. Time, 23 1-5.
