PIONEER CLUB EVENING

Wives Of Visiting Mayors And Councillors Present

The wives of mayors and councillors, who are visiting Wellington for the municipal conference, were the guests of the Pioneer Club on Thursday at a delightful evening party. About 40 visitors attended and were welcomed by the president, Miss Amy Kane, and Mrs. W. Duncan. Miss Kane wo_re a black frock with jet embroideries on the bodice, and Mrs. Dunean was wearing black net with appliques of pink flowers on the skirt. Lovely bowls of asters, hydrangeas and gladioli, in shades of pink, blue and mauve decorated the reception room. A programme of musical and dramatic items had been arranged and was much enjoyed by the gathering. The glee club, under the direction of Mrs. Goodson, presented glees. Mrs. C. E. Eastwood sang, duets were given by Mrs. Goodson and Mrs. K. Fowles. Mrs. Lacey gave elocutionary numbers, and Miss' Dorothy Seymour, humorous sketches. The accompanist was Mr?. Fowles. Community singing, in which everyone joined, concluded this portion of the evening’s entertainment, and was followed by the serving of a buffet supper.

Mrs. Thompson, wife of the mayor of Stratford, thanked Miss Kane and members of the club for their generous hospitality which was appreciated by everyone.
