Wellington Music Teachers The drawing-room of the Pioneer Club was tilled to capacity on Saturday night on the occasion of the tirst. social meeting of the Music Teachers’ Association since the annual conference, held in Wellington iu January. In referring to the success of the com ference, which was attended by 12,i teachers of music, from all parts of the Dominion, the president, Mr. Stanley Oliver, said that it was believed to have, been the greatest number of music teachers ever gathered together in the history of this country. Letters from as far south as Kaitaia and as far south as Invercargill, testified to the keen enjoyment and inspiration which had been derived from the papers and recitals given, and the discussions which followed. Mr. Oliver made a sympathetic reference to the deep loss to the musical community of Wellington by the death ol Madam tie Manny, who had been one of their most esteemed members. lie also referred to the appointment of Dr. C. E. Becby ns Director of Education and said that the council of the Music Teachers’ Association had written Io Dr. Beeby, not only congratulating him on his appointment, but congratulating themselves that a man like him. who associated himself with all that (hey stood for, should be at the head of the educational system of the Dominion. 'The musical programme given on Saturday night was one of the most enjoyable ever given at the association’s social meetings. The items were: “SonataPoeme" (Roy Agnew), played by Jocelyn Walker; movements I and JI of I.be Sonata for Violoncello and Pianoforte (Boellmann), played by Miss Gertrude Johnston and Mr. S. McLean; “Christmas Song" (Cornelius I, "The Angel's Song" (Elgar), "The Sky 'Above the Roofs” (Vaughan Williams), "The, Swan” (Grieg) and a Russian Gopak, sung by Mrs. Ruth Markham, and a cycle of live songs by Peter 'Warlock, sung by Mrs. Merle Gamble. Mr. Stanley Oliver acted as accompanist;.
