Mr. A. V. Jacobson, who has retired from the composing staff of tlie Government Printing Office after 32 years’ service, was presented by the Government Printer, on behalf of the staff, with a travelling rug. The overseers presented Mr. Jacobson witli a set of ■fire-irons. Both presentations were accompanied by expressions of regret at Mr- Jacobson’s departure, and of good wishes for the future.

Banks has been appointed local director and attorney in New Zealand of the Martha Gold Mining Company (Waihi), Limited, and of tlie New Zealand Mining Trust Agency and Trustee Company, Limited, according to advice received from London.
