Man Carries Two Bricks Through The City

Wellington citizens can expect to see strange sights in the streets for a time, as the season of wagers lias again set in. If lias been openeil by a young man, Mr. Harold Tasker, who carried two bricks from the corner of Manners Street and Cuba Street Io the cornel' of Lambton Quay and Ballance street, without altering his grip on the bricks. He won a wager of £2/15/-. The wager arose from a discussion among several men as to how far two bricks eoiild lie carried. Five shillings was laid that they could not be carried in the same hands for the distance Mr. Tasker covered. Mr. Tasker took up Hie challenge, and before lie set out on his walk about 5.15 p.m. yesterday the sum al stake had risen by h.'ilfcrown and live-shilling bets to £2/15/-.

Scouts were .stationed at strategic points along the route to be covered and .Mr. Tasker set out on his trip, accoinpanted by his fruitier. Walking quickly through the streets, currying the two bricks, lie attracted curious glances from t lie many passers-by. One person was so much impressed by the .spectacle that be approached Mr. Tasker for an autograph. Unfortunately the request could not be complied with unless tlie grip on the bricks was relaxed. About 20 or 30 persons were waiting to welcome Mr. Tasker when lie reached his destination. Several appeared willing to attempt to better bis effort, and it is possible that further contests will be staged.
