EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL

Ferry And Bus Services

Au increase during December, 1939 of £4OO in the receipts from the Eastbourne Ferry Service compared with the same month in the previous year was reported by the Town Clerk, Mr. C. L. Bisho]), at a meeting ou Thursday of the Eastbourne Borough Council. The total for the nine mouths showed a fairly substantial increase over the corresponding period -’f the previous financial year, he said. Despite a poor Anniversary Day the receipts for January had been very good, and there was every prospect of the position for the full financial year being better than for the previous financial year. The steady increase in receipts from the omnibus service had been maintained, but with the extra running and the heavier charges for petrol and oil operating costs had been very much higher than during the corresponding period of the previous year. With the increased costs they might not obtain the same nett results in the future, but he anticipated that the results would be quite satisfatory. The council decided that a 10 per cent penalty on unpaid rates should apply from February 15. At special meeting held before the general meeting it was reaffirmed that Wednesday should be the half-holiday within the borough.
