POOR VISIBILITY ON WAITEMATA

Aotearoa Alights On The Manukau Harbour TRIP FROM WELLINGTON COMPLETED LATER . By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 21. The Tasman Empire Airways flyingboat Aotearoa, on her way to Auckland from Wellington on .Saturday afternoon, alighted on the Manukau Harbour at Cornwallis as visibility on the Waitemata Harbour was reduced to 300 yards.

Passengers on the Aotearoa included the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Lee Martin, and Mrs. Martin ; Mr. Coates, M.P., Mr. R. Davis, M.L.C., Mr. I. J. Goldstine, mayor of One Tree Hill; and Mrs. J. W. Heenan, Mrs. C. A. Furlong and Mrs. D. G. Ball. Approaching Auckland after a little over two hours’ flying, a report was received that visibility on the Waitemata was down to 300 yards and in the interests of safety Captain Burgess decided to alight temporarily on the Manukau at Cornwallis. The flying-boat alighted without difficulty. After a wait of about an hour an improvement in visibility on the Waitemata was reported and the Aotearoa flew over the narrow isthmus to land on the Waitemata.

Including the delay caused in making the extra stop and the wait at Cornwallis the passengers reached Auckland about four hours after leaving Wellington.
