WELLINGTON STAKES
Sir Beau Outclasses Field
Sir Beau, favourite in the live-horse field for the Wellington Stakes, outclassed ids opponents. He gave them a start, Absolve going into the lead with Doria. Sir Beau remaining three or tour lengths back with Laimbottrn. Sir Beau moved forward coming on Io the course proper, and, gathering his field with case, drew ahead to win casing up. Absolve stopped quickly over the last furlong, the minor places being fought out by Kentucky and Doria, the former finishing a little the stronger. The winner was having only his third race. Ho was narrowly beaten by Absolve the first, day nt Manawatu, but. in the next start at the same meeting reversed the placings, and on this occasion showed that lie has gone on with tile improvement. He is out of a half-sister to the brilliant sprinters Mireusontu and Kiosk, and was bred by his owner, Air. I. Lupton, of Waverley, He is not like the Beau Pere family at all in looks, but more resembles Kiosk. He is the first foal of ids dam. Hose Hay, who is by Chief Ruler fl'oln Rosie Desmoild. Alireusonta was by Absurd from Rosie Desmond. and her half-brother Kiosk was by Tea Tray. Tlie lack of strong opposition to Sir Beau may not: allow him the credit due to his performance. It. has been a year of very mixed form among the two-year-olds, liilt there is no doubt that tills colt is iu the fop flight.
