INSTITUTE CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY

A delightful afternoon was spent recently in tlie Wesley Hall. Lower Hutt, when the Belmont Women’s Institute held their eighth birthday party. The president of the institute, Mrs. 11. W. Bennett, presided, and among those present were Mrs. G. Heathcote, president of the Hutt Valley Federation; Mrs. L. Horn, of the Dominion Federation; ami Miss Maddever. who organized the Belmont institute and was the spokesman for the delegates who attended Ihe recent conference of rhe Associated Country Women of the World in London. Institute members from Taita, Silverslream, Trentham. Wainui-o-Mata and Upper Hutt, ami visitors from the Alicetown and Karori Townswomen’s Guilds also attended. iMiss Maddever spoke interestingly of her recent trip, and Mr. .1. Thomson, who exhibited a stand of bulbs, gave advice ou their cultivatimi. He also judged the narcissi display by members, the result being: Mrs. Webster .1. Mrs. Presents 2, and Mrs. Young 3. Mrs. Horn lit the candles on libbirthday cake. Mrs. Healhcote blew (hem out, and Miss Maddever cut the cake. Mrs. .1. Webster sang the birthdav song. Bank books were presented to the babies of four members, with a small amount Io start the account. Those receiving the books were Jill Alsop, Adele Blackmore, Yvonne Graydon and Marion Middleton. \ bring-aml-buy stall was in charge of Mrs. Nelson ami Miss Kenyon.
