HASTINGS TRACKS

Centrepoise Impresses

Dominion Special Service HASTINGS, September 28. Though tlie weather here is fine again, the tracks this morning were slightly holding, but drying up fast. All fast work was again exclusively on the inside gratis. Worked separately, Kobi, Yogi and Brunhilde were allotted similar tasks, two furlongs down the back, eased tlie next two to come home the last two again. All regiotcred 2(1 for tlie first quarter-mile, with Yogi pleasing rnort. Kathbella, seldom allowed to exhibit her best in private, was strongly held when returning 55 for half a mile. She. certainly appears to be back to last autumn’s form.

Singapore occupied 53 over four furlongs, being under restraint the concluding furlong—a very fair effort. He was not nominated for the maidens here, but for hack events, so maybe a better class novice race is being sought for this promising galloper. Hunting Moments and Hunting Mint were associated iu a solid two rounds, running home botli times down the straight. Both were never iu better order. ' Royal Minstrel, still not doing his tasks correctly, this morning certainly equalled the best time of 53 for half a mile, but was pushed right out to do it. Tidal Lass and Charles Hugo, two mediocre novices in a time comparison acquitted themselves satisfactorily, recording 54 for half a mile. Kalika ran six furlongs in 1.23; a Golden Streak filly three iu 401; Oxyopia, six in 1.23; Fossickcr, three in 41; Sternchase, five in 68. None was extended. The juvenile En Minqla, who is not making the Auckland trip, was on the, bit all the way to record 40 for three furlongs, accompanied by the decidely-im-proved novice Waglinde. ■ Essex continues to treat track watchers with interesting work. This morning, never going faster than three-quarter pace, he beat Elettra over a round hi 1.55, pulling up as sound as ever. Royal Star, improved by Saturday e race, had Golincampg scratching over five in 68.

The juvenile Smoke Trail was associated with Shetland Me over three in 41, but the latter did the task with ridiculous ease, to impress as one of the most improved maidens here, a class particularly strong at present. Perhaps the best effort of the morning was that of Centrepoise, who, after 12 furlongs at a solid pace, came . home against the steel the last three in 38J, putting more life into the task than ever before. He will race at Hastings and then, all going well, will receive a final polish for the New Zealand Cup engagement. At the moment he must be regardefl as a dangerous lightweight. Le Toquet, after bolting a few furlongs, was brought back to run five with Hyderabad in 69.

Isis and a Cuticle filly left three behind in, 41. The former is developing into a filly of class and will not Surprise in the least if she offers Indore the strongest opposition in the Stakes next week. Hagen, doing it easily, finished abreast of iMemetical over four in 54j. The former, cleaned up nicely with recent racing, is losing that lumbersoine appearance which he always previously carried. Falcot and Tableau did a working gallop of three in 44. Lady Stella, very fit and pulling bard, did a similar task. Classical and Modern, Way were also restricted to a working gallop of six in 1.23. Gay Laura was given a simple task, mated with the ’chaser Miss Blue, The former, hard held, ran (he last six in 1.25. She'will race at Epsom on Thursday next with the owner, Mr. Henry Dodo, on top. Gold Ballad galloped late on the drying track ami easily ran four in 53. First Chapter and Arabic ran a moderate six in 1.23.

Alisurina, now jumping 100 per cent, better than when winning at Napier last June, gave a fast, clean display over six hurdles.

Morning Flight, developing with schooling, made no errors over six Hights. It is hoped that this treatment will make him more solid iu condition.

Dozie Boy outjumped and outpaced Boatsong in a round of schooling hurdles. The former ifi something in the nature of a dark horse, and is liable to upset calculations from now on. A proficient jumper, he has sufficient speed for a hurdler, plus stamina.

Hawke’s Bay has few representatives on Saturday at Otaki..

Sir Nigel, iby virtue of two seconds in his last two starts, is wortliy of a second thought at the Otaki Alaori meeting against the inferior class. Colineamps was backed and beaten at Marton. His gallop 'this morning does not reveal, his chances in a favourable light and it will occasion no surprise if his old shoulder trouble make a reappearance nt any time. Solaria is at best only a second-rater, but solid racing condition early in the spring is a factor never to be overlooked, hence the chestnut is 'being fancied here, if started in the ten furlongs.

Royal Star ip opposed by first-class seven furlong horses, but with all things equal in the running, tins Irish-bred gelding, on his condition aud present form, will test the’ best of the opposition. The other member is Le Toquet, whose form, or lack of it, is only too well known. However, Bill Corlett has him in fine shape. The apprentice W. J. Altldford has been offered all Air. G. AL Currie’s riding under 7.13, but. so far has not replied.
