Pressure On Defences Of Changsha
CHINESE ADMISSION

The Doniei News Agency says that the Japanese are within 20 miles of Changsha, whose defences, are crumbling. Five Chinese divisions are in full retreat. Ihe Chinese dead in the past fortnight number 8200.
Dispatches from \\ eilin admitted that General Chien had minimized the seriousness of the Japanese drive but insisted that the Chinese army is fundamentally not menaced by it since in the South China area a great number of skilled Chinese are operating behind the enemy lines._ It is felt the Japanese will refrain from a further advance westward due to the mountain defences.

Tokio Disillusionment With Nazis
LONDON, September 26.
The Tokio correspondent of "The Times” says disillusionment with Germany deepens with the disclosures in the Blue Book on the pre-war negotiations, revealing Herr Hitler’s cynical disregard for Japan. Tlie “Japan Times” says: “Herr Hitler was ready to use Japan as a pawn in his dealings with Britain.”
