TOBACCO PRICES
Increase Authorized
It was announced iby the .Minister of Industries and ■Commerce, Mr. Sullivan, early this morning, that tfe a consequence of tlie new duties on tobacco and in pursuance of the authority contained in the price stabilization emergency regulations an increase in price of Id. a packet of 10 cigarettes and 3d. a two-ounce tin of tobacco had been authorized.
Tlie Minister said some of the- retailers to conserve their stocks had already brought this increase into effect. It would have been impossible to compel all tobacconists throughout New Zealand to refrain from putting up their prices till such time as existing stocks were exhausted as most, tobarcconists hold small stocks of various brands of cigarettes and tobacco.
