HASTINGS GALLOPS

Morning Flight Improves

Dominion Special Service HASTINGS, September 26. With the Hawke’s Bay spring meeting just a little more than a week off, Hastings tracks this morning were a little busier than for some weeks. However, work in general was more m the nature of preparing for more important activity later on in the week. The number two inside grass track was used exclusively and on account of the last 24 hours of solid rain was not fast, without being holding, however. _ Kobi, much improved by Taranaki and Wanganui racing, galloped two furlongs down the. back in 28, and was then eased to come home again, finishing strongly. Yogi, decidedly on the upgrade, in «t similar task, registered for the first quarter. , . , Brunhilde, moving much more freely than she has for the last 12 months, did the two down the back in 26, pulling up remarkably well. Maybe this season she will race more in keeping with her two and three-year-old form. Singapore, improved by the Awapum race, was bv no means extended to register 674 for five furlongs. The novice class at present in this centre is most promisin'' with this three-year-old at perhaps the pick of the basket, at least as regards private work. , Kathbella, to all outward signs, fully recovered from the mysterious malady that affected her, showed rare dash m a sprint down the straight. She is not to race till the Wellington spring meeting. The Ring and Elettra had a working gallop once round, the last .six. in 1.30. Similar tasks were given Earl's court, who did four 57, Red Shoes 56. and Royal Spades 551. The stakes candidate, Bombay, ran a quarter of a mile in 25f. Neither Golden Melody nor Kalika was impressive when registering 1.24 for threequarters of a mile with the former handling the track conditions better. In all probability, Kalika will be given a counse of schooling in the immediate future. _ , ...... Tidal Lass and Charles Hugo did lour furlongs in even time. Avondale, against the hft, took 54 for four furlongs', tune equalled by Shnni. Hunting Mint, going well, was too good for Hunting Moments by a length over the best, live of the morning in 661. . Essex, continuing to work impressively, was given a solid two rounds, brushing home the last half in 54. carrying the best part of 10 stone. Royal Minstrel, working nowhere near the form of last winter, weakened at the end of six in 1.21. His loss of form is hard to account lor. as he looks lull ot bloom, even if a little on the big .side. Hagen, looking in better racing condition than ever previously, shad a working companion, the nnraced Mimetical, who is one of the promising juvenile bunch here. The pair worked twice round, coming down the straight both times at a handy gallop. The best six furlongs of the morning was credited to Morning I light and Mother-in-Law, when registering a tick under 1.20. The former showed improvement with recent schooling. Golden Flame and Dainty Dell, casing up over the last furlong, ran live in <O. Misurina and Centrepoise, both appreciating the state of the going and pulling hard took 56 for a half. Gay Laura and Laughing Song, under restraint. occupied 1.23 for six. with Dozie Boy and Proclamation doing live Sicgall, no more than half pace, had Lady Grev doing her best to record 72. The only schooling was accomplished by Ifossiekcr, who. through gaining conlidence at his fences', gave a much-im-proved exhibition over five hurdles.. From hack to open company ho was a big disappointment, but he now looks like rewarding his connexions. Gold Ballad, now in Alf. Quinlivan s stable, capably handled the going, running live furlongs in 69. (Trotting on Page 14,)
