News And Notes From Town And Country Harrier Club Social. An enjoyable social evening was held on Saturday night, when friends and members of the Christian Youth Movement Harrier Club gathered at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Everard, 25 Hinau Street, Lower Hutt. A humorous monologue was presented by Miss Ethel Rainsford and a vocal item by Mr. K. Brooker. Wesley Missionary Auxiliary. The annual meeting of the Wesley branch of the Methodist Women’s Missionary Auxiliary was held in the church parlour, Taranaki Street, Wellington, recently. Mrs. E. O. Blamires presided over a fair attendance. A comprehensive annual report was (presented by the secretary, Mrs. B. O. Stokes, who stated that the year’s work had been very satisfactory, more than £B5 having been raised for home and foreign mission work. Deep regret was expressed at the death of Mrs. H. E. Pacey, a former president, and thanks for her long service in missionary work were given. A bouquet of flowers was presented to Mrs. Blamires. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Howe, Rowe and Webb. The election of officers resulted: — President, Mrs. E. O. Blamires; vicepresidents, Mesdames J. Rowe, W. E. Howe and R. S. Maunder; secretary,Mrs. B. 0. Stokes; assistant secretary. Miss Sutherland; treasurer, Mrs. T. M. Pacey. N.Z. Slippers, Ltd., Dance. A well-attended dance and social evening took place recently in the bright dining-room of N.Z. Slippers, Ltd., Lower Hutt. The proceeds are in aid of equipment for the newlyformed basketball team. Miss Betty Ford gave a tapdance and Miss Heather Wright an eccentric dance. The committee comprised Miss June Gray, captain, Miss J. Berrington, vice-cap-tain, and Misses M. Flood, M. Fleet, and J. Williams, and Mr. A. Pritchard, who was at the piano. Among those present were Misses .B. and <l. Ryan, S. James, L. Purvey, W. Berrington, B. and D. Elliott, L. Curry, M. and N. Ford, J. Morgan, L. and H. McKay, J. Hayes, 11. Atkins, M. Chapman, M. Miller, P. Jones, M. Pritchard, R. Gray, Flux, R. Wellington, R. Ryan, D. Ashford, T. Ferris, and H. Blank. Women’s Study Circle Afternoon. A very pleasant afternoon was spent by members of the Women’s Study Circle at a social given by two of its members, Mesdames Popple and Walsh. A play reading, entitled “My Herbert Says,’’ given by the Drama Group of the Elizabeth McCombs Club, was warmly applauded. Mesdames Popple and Walsh played a piano duet, and Mrs. MacGlashen Smith gave two humorous recitations, all being enjoyed by the members. Tea was served, and the afternoon closed with a hearty vote of thanks to the hostesses by the president, Mrs. Mitchell, and members. Everygirl Club. The musical and social evening sponsored bj th< committee of the Everygirl Club proved a great success and resulted in the enrolment of a number of enthusiastic new members.

Piping hot sausage rolls and cheerios were very acceptable for the buffet tea. A vocal solo by Miss Andrea Lawson followed, after which Miss Bonnell, senior activities secretary, outlined briefly for the benefit of new members, the club’s programme for the year. This includes supervision and tuition in arts and crafts, ballroom and folk dancing, gymnasium and badminton. A skit entitled, “Courtship through the ages,” presented by club members, was heartily received. Gymnasium and Danish dancing with Miss Macdonald preceded a less strenuous period of community singing. Table teunis and badminton concluded a very enjoyable evening.
