Thawing Snow And Heavy Rain SOUTHLAND’S PLIGHT By Telegraph—Press Association. INVERCARGILL, July 28. 'After a remarkably rapid thaw of the heavy snow of the last few days, accel rated by heavy rain during most of the day, Southland faces a danger of serious flooding during the weekend. ' Snow on the back country is now melting rapidly and the bigger rivers are rising. Many small streams have already broken their banks, mid it is feared’ that a major flood may develop tomorrow.
