Need To Safeguard Their
Own Interests
“The criticism has been, made that the farmers are always .squealing, never satisfied and constantly decrying their own position,” said Mr. W. Hirrbutt, Cambridge, addressing the National Dairy Conference in Wellington yesterday on the guaranteed price for dairy produce. That was not the case. If they complained for that reason they should not be accused of squealing. They must look to the future, and the interests of posterity. He did not wish to see his children’s lives moulded by the present-day legislation. He did not wish to see the farmers of New Zealand relegated to small holdings and serfdom, but that would happen if they did not take concerted action to safeguard their own interests.
