HOSPITAL BENEFITS

Co-operation Of Public

Wanted

By Telegraph—Press Association

AUCKLAND, June 28.

When treatment in public hospitals throughout the Dominion becomes free for in-patients with the introduction of the hospital benefits section of the Social Security Act on Saturday, no immediate difficulties in effecting the changeover are expected at the Auckland Hospital.

“There are now approximately 750 patients in hospital, and a further 250 names are on the waiting list,” said the chairman of the hospital board, Mr. Allan ,1. Moody. “We do not expect auy serious difficulties in actually making the changeover, but it is obvious that, with the very limited accommodation available. admissions must be carefully scrutinized.. , “In applying the scheme the cooperation of the public is essential.” With the hospital already crowded to capacity, it is feared by the authorities that there may be a flood of applications for admission after Saturday.
