Cunningham—Lucas

A topknot of orchids catching her long tulle veil was worn by Miss Joan Lucas at her wedding in Mastertou recently to Mr. Geoffrey Cunningham. Pale cream satin brocaded in a leaf design on a gold threaded background made her frock, and she carried cream orchids, violets aiid freesias. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. P. Kummer, Kammerstein, Mastertou, and the bridegroom is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Cunningham, Dannevirke. . The Rev. C. L. Dobbs, Tinui, officiated, and during tlie ceremony Mr. R. Gilbert sang “Wher’er You Walk.” Massed hydrangeas arranged among fern leaves decorated the church. The three bridesmaids wore edwardian frocks of cream slipper satin with corselette belts in violet tunings. Cream ostrich tips were worn in their hair and they carried freesias and violets. They 'were Misses Dina Isaacs. Auckland, Dorothy Todd. Masterton; and Joyce Kummer, Masterton. Mr. Ralph Caro, Hamilton, was best man, and Messrs. Jack Reid (Masterton) and John Giblin (Dannevirke) were groomsmen. Messrs. Dick Armstrong and Norman Kummer were ushers.

At the reception, which was held at tlie Masonic Hall, guests from all parts of New Zealand were received by the bride's mother, Mrs. Paul Kummer, who wore a gown of blue sheer and cream lace with matching hat. Mrs. Cunningham assisted her, wearing wine lace over black satin, her hat being finished with an ostrich plume.

The bride travelled in a Venetian ensemble of sage green trimmed with Persian lamb and a green toque. Mr. and Mrs. Geoffrey Cunningham will live in Moera, Dannevirke. .

Whiteman—Elkins A quiet wedding took place recently in St. Matthew’s Church, Mastertou, when Moira Stoddard, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Elkins, Parkvale, Carterton, was married to Harold Arthur, youngest son of 'Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Whiteman, Lansdowne, Masterton. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. E. J. Rich, and Mr. Miller Hope was at the organ. The bride wore a becoming gown of magnolia satin, fashioned with a fulltrained skirt, and heart-shaped neckline. The embroidered tulle veil, which was lent by a friend, was held in place with a coronet of orange blossoms, and her shower bouquet consisted of cream and pale pink chrysanthemums, carnations and maidenhair fern. The bridesmaid, Miss Joan Andrews, Masterton, wore a frock of wave crest cloque taffeta, in early .Victorian style, with tight bodiee and very full sleeves and skirt. She carried a shower bouquet of petunia coloured chrysanthemums, and wore matching flowers in her hair.

Mr. Ray O’Callaghan, Masterton, was best man.

The reception was held at the Prince of Wales Hotel, where only immediate relatives were received by Mrs. Elkins, who wore a navy ensemble with matching accessories and carried a posy of red-toned flowers. Mrs. Elkins was assisted by Mrs. Whiteman, who wore a black tailored costume and carried a posy in heliotrope and pink shades. The bride travelled in a woodland blue two-piece suit with black accessories and grey fox fur. Pillar—Kempson Pink heather, pink chrysanthemums and blue hydrangeas attractively arranged by girl friends of the bride, formed a delightful setting in All Saints’ Church, Palmerston North, recently, when Mavis Adelaide, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Kempson, Palmerston North, was married to Rex Thomas, only son of. Mr. and the late Mrs. Thomas Pillar, Featherston. The ceremony was performed by Canon G. Y. Woodward. A hand-embroidered tulle veil, originally sent from England by her maternal grandmother, was a feature of the bride’s ensemble. Her frock was of ivory embossed satin with full train and long sleeves, cowled at the elbow.

A ipearl clip finished the neckline and she wore a necklet of pearls, the gift of her parents. Lilies and chrysanthemums made her bouquet. Messrs. W. Brown, brother-in-law of the bride, and P. J. Downie, Palmerston North, were ushers at the church.

Early spring bulbs and Iceland poppies decorated Rosco’s tearooms, where the reception was held. More than 100 guests attended and were received by Mrs. Kempson wearing a rust frock and .
