COMMUNITY SINGING
The community singing committee, Wellington, announces that the first sing or the 1939 season will be held next Wednesday in the Town Hall, commencing at noon. The mayor of Wellington, Mr. Hislop, will be present to formally open the sing. The committee states that while community Singing was instituted primarily for the purpose of creating an atmosphere of good cheer and happiness, more particularly during periods of great stress, they have been the means of raising considerable sums of money for charitable purposes. With the return of more prosperous times the committee had hoped that thefe would be no further need to appeal for financial support, but as the mayor’s metropolitan fund is unable to meet all calls for assistance from necessitous casee the'committee has decided to make a special appeal for support so that this, the centennial year, will leave nobody in need. . A large attendance is essential tor a successful sing, and whether patrons can afford to contribute to the fund or not. the committee extends a hearty welcome to all. A most attractive programme has been arranged, the song leaders being Mill Mason and Charles Proctor, with £ rank Crowther at the piano and Charles Collins at the organ. Mr. H. F. (Tony) Wood, who for years has given the committee his wholehearted support, will be the guest artist at the opening sing. Those who listen to the radio broadcast are invited to forward contributions to the Community Singing Committee, Box 80, Wellington.
