MUCH BUILDING WORK IN INVERCARGILL

In the last three years the volume of building in Invercargill proportionate to population has been the highest of the seven biggest cities of the Dominion. Compared with cities of similar size—Wanganui and Palmerston North—building returns for Invercargill have been consistently higher throughout the period. The average of the value of building each year for the last three years shows Invercargill leading with £l3/6/- a head, Palmerston North £B/11/- a head, Wa-nganui-£4/19/- a head. The value of building a head for the seven main eihw last year was: Inyercarg 1 !!, £l3/6/6, Dunedin, £lO/11/6; Auckland, £9/18/10, Palmerston North, Wellington, £9/8/6; Wanganui, £7/19/-; Christchurch, £3/18/1.
