AFTERNOON MUSICALE

Kindergarten Auxiliary's Successful Event

Women of the auxiliary of the Wellington Free Kindergarten Association, are well known for their enthusiasm in planning the successful events which add to kindergarten funds so considerably from time to time. Yesterday afternoon, at the home of Mrs. A. Longmore, a large gathering enjoyed a delightful programme of music and song which had been arranged by Mrs. Longmore and which was enthusiastically received. The programme included the works of old and modern composers and was presented so that the listeners were able to appreciate by comparison some of' the changes that have taken place in the world of music today.

Miss Betty Blamires opened the programme with a group of piano solos, Mrs. Eastwood and Mrs. Lionel Nelson sang, Miss May Hyam presented violin solos, Miss Marjorie Bennie, accompanied by Mrs. Jones, gave two songs and a French chanson, and Miss Van Staveren presented recitations. Mrs. C. McDonald also acted as accompanist. In the absence of the president, Mrs. D. C. Peacock, the guests were received by Mrs. Longmore, who wore a striking afternoon frock of floral panelled silk. In the dining-room and morning rooms fires gave a glowing note of welcome and a witch bowl of blue irises formed the central floral motif in the dining-room, where the programme was presented. Members supplied a delicious savoury tea at the conclusion of the programme and as a result of their generosity in providing such abundant fare, energetic helpers did a brisk business selling the remainder of the fresh-ly-baked cakes and savouries to the guests before they departed. Among those present were Mesdanies Desmond White, Hardwick-Smith, Gordon Kemp, V. R. Gunn, B. Sutherland, J. T. Martin, I. V. Newman, P. S. Allen, L. Jacobsen, ? J. Balharry, 0. Dickson Skelley, Bruce Rennie, McDougall, James Bennie, Gibbs, Bullock, E. W. Hunt, J. W. Carr, T. F. Walshe, Jones, E. Dowsett, R. B. Gibbons, G. H. P. Davidson, Dill (England) ; Misses M. A.
