SCRAP METAL

Modification Of Export Embargo By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 20. Modification of tlie embargo on the export of scrap metal from New Zealand has been notified by the Comptroller of Customs to several Auckland merchants, who were previously interested in the trade. They have been informed that the Government is now prepared to give favourable consideration to applications for permission to export specified quantities of tin clippings, which have been sold to a Sydney firm. “Tlie notification we received _ from tlie Comptroller was the first advice of any lifting of the embargo, but the nature of the letter suggests that there must have been some activity,” a former exporter of scrap metals said. “There is no indication that the Government proposes to relax the restrictions on other classes of metals and inquiries are being made to ascertain the nature and scope of Hie new decision.”
