ARREST OF LORRYDRIVER
Sequel To Double Fatality NEGLIGENT DRIVING CHARGE By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, April 17. As a sequel to the motor accident near Mosgiel in which Mr. Neil Harris, aged 24, and Miss Vera Thomson, aged 22, lost their lives, the police have arrested William Alexander Tait, aged 30, lorry driver, who works in Outram, but who comes from Oamaru. Tait was charged in the Magistrates’ Court with negligent driving causing death, and was remanded to April 2G on bail of £4OO. An inquest was opened and adjourned. The poignancy of the tragedy is heightened by the fact that the Victims were engaged and had been spending the evening at Miss Thomson’s parents’ home, where her father was celebrating his birthday. The father saw them off at 11.30 on Saturday night. Nearby residents head a smash but the collision had thrown the bodies and the cycle off the road so nothing was visible. ONE KILLED, THREE INJURED Lorry Overturns Near National Park By Telegraph—Press Association. TAUMARUNUI, April 17. When returning to Taumarunui at 9 o’clock last night a lorry overturned near the National Park station, one of the occupants being killed and three injured. The victims were: KILLED. Leslie Dabb, draper’s assistant, Taumarunui, aged 38, a married man with two children. INJURED. Robert John Henry Trenboth, mechanic and driver of the car, abrasions. Philip Dalton, ticket writer, severe shoulder injuries. Dorothy Smith, hairdresser, whose parents live in Wellington, shock.
