Pressure High To North
Following is the weather report ami forecast for winds and seas issued by the Meteorological Office, AVellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. today:— General situation: Pressure is still relatively high to the north, and a shallow westerly depression lias been crossing the South. Island. This latter is being followed by a secondary. Forecast: — Winds: North-west to south-west prevailing; moderate mainly, but strong at times in exposed positions, specially about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Seas (New Zealand waters) : Rough in Cook and Foveaux Straits and rather rough at times on the west coast of the South Island; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: West to southwest winds predominating, moderate mainly with slight to moderate seas, but freshening at times in southern portions with rather rough seas. (General forecast appears above leading article.) YESTERDAY’S WEATHER AVellington: Fine, with a strong north wind, which occasionally reached gale force; temperatures mild. Minimum temperature during Thursday night, 54.8 deg. Maximum yesterday, 65.5 deg At 3.30 p.m., the temperature was 61.8 deg. and the barometer read 29.882111. Palmerston. North: Overcast and threatening, with a light, misty rain in tlie early morning, but the reniaiuder of the day was fine.
Mastertcn: Sunny after a frost of 1.8 deg. Gusty north-westerly wind.
Wanganui.— Overcast sky ami a light north-westerly breeze. The barometer reading at 4.30 p.m. was SO.OOin. Napier and Hastings: Fine, clear and warm, following a cold night. A light to moderate northerly breeze during the morning and a' very light easterly breeze during the afternoon. Waipukurau: A beautiful sunny day with ir maximum temperature of 77deg. The barometer dropped slightly to 30.30111.
New Plymouth: Sunny during the morning, but light rain in the afternoon develo]H?d into a steady downpour. The wind was westerly. The barometer at 5 p.m. read 2!).!)0in. Auckland: Cloudy, with a moderate to fresh westerly wind. The maximum temperature was 72deg. The barometric pressure was fairly steady, ihe reading at 5 p.m. being 30.05 in. Christchurch: Fine and sunny alt day with a light easterly breeze : maximum temperature 77deg. The barometer at 5 p.m. read 29.789111 and was steady. Dunedin: Though misty rain threatened in tlie morning, the day remained fine and the sun shone at intervals. The sky became overcast in the afternoon. Temperatures were mild, the maximum being 65deg. and the barometer rose to 29.90 in.
