SECOND KINGFISH CAUGHT
Filipino Sailors Again
Successful A second kingfish; 'ten pounds heavier than that caught by them on Thursday, was taken yesterday by the Filipino sailors of the steamer Susana, lying at the King's AVharf. It weighed 451 b., measured about 4ft. Gin. in length, and was of considerable girth.
As before, the lish was caught with a pole rod from a punt alongside the steamer. It was galfed on being brought to the surface. Encouraged by the success of the Filipinos, quite a number of wharf fishermen have been trying their luck in the neighbourhood, but without so far emulating (lie natives. The.latter used a stout line and hook baited with bright herring, attached to a short stout pole. The taking of two such big lish in the harbour argues the presence of kingfish in unusual numbers in the harbour this season. Indeed, reports from all main fishing centres this year are that kingfish arc unusually numerous. (Picture on page 9.)
