Successful Trial Flight
From "The Dominion,” January til, 1014. Mr. J. J. Hammond, who is flying the Government aeroplane at Auckland, is not the only exponent ot the art of flying in New Zealand. There is another Richmond in the field in Mr. J. W. Scotland, who has been engaged in fitting up a Caudron biplane at Otaki for the past week, in which work he has been assisted by Messrs, Sehaef and Turner, Wellington. On Thursday evening last, the machine being all in order. Mr. Scotland made a highly successful flight, remaining in the air for a space of twenty minutes. It is understood tjiat exhibition flights are to lie given by Mr. SeotlUml throughout New Zealand tinder arrangement with a Wellington syndicate, represented by Mr. S. Petheriek. « e »
King Aiplionso astonished his entourage by quietly leaving the palace and walking the streets of Madrid in a grey suit and felt hat and smoking a cigar, lie was stopped by a pedestrian, who asked for a light. Tile King held his lighted cigar and complied with the request.
