NURSES' CONFERENCE

The lift!' ' annual conference of the New Zealand Nurses’ Christian Union will open in Wellington today. Delegates are coming from all parts of the North apd South Islands and will stay at the Salvation Army Training College. Mrs. H. Bayldon Ewen, Wellington, the Dominion president, will be conference “mother,” and much of the arranging has been done by the honorary secretary, Miss Janet Samson, Plunket charge nurse in Wellington. This afternoon there will be a reception at the public hospital, when the delegates will be the guests of the matron and the hospital group. Tonight there, will be a public meeting and welcome to delegates. A full programme has been planned for every day, and the conference will continue till Monday night.

Stuffed Marrow

Take 1 medium-sized vegetable marrow, 2 cupfuls breadcrumbs, 1 egg, 4 pint cheese sauce, 2 tablespoonfuls butter, 1 tablespoonful chopped parsley, 1 medium-sized onion, i cupful chopped cooked ham, stock or milk to moisten, pepper and stilt. Gut off a slice from either end of marrow. Remove seeds and membrane, then peel. Parboil in salted water for live minutes. Heat butter in a saucepan. Add chopped onion, breadcrumbs, parsley, and ham. then tlie beaten egg and stock or milk to moisten. Season to taste with salt, and pepper. Drain marrow, and fill shell with the mixture. Cover with th? sauce. Bake in a moderate oven for about -15 minutes or till brown and tender. Serve with potatoes (boiled) as t'lie main dish for dinner.

Put. a pinch of ground arrowroot into your salt, shaker ami whatever the outside temperature or weather the salt will remain dry and fine.
