SECOND AUCKLAND WOOL SALE
Prospects For Tomorrow INCREASE IN PRICES NOT ANTICIPATED ' Dominion Special Service. AUCKLAND, January 22. Speculation whether Japan will be actively iu the market at the second Auckland wool sale of the season on Tuesday has arisen from the presence of Japanese buyers among visiting experts who continued appraising the clip at the weekend. A total of 24.000 bales will be offered.
Though Japanese buyers attended the first Auckland sale last November, they did not bid, merely contenting themselves with marking catalogues ami geenrally following the sale. Both Bradford and the Continent are well represented among the buyers assembled in Auckland and apart from the wool which goes to New Zealand mills it is thought likely that the bulk of Tuesday’s offering will go overseas to these two destinations. Purchases by the United States are not expected. Though the wool for the second sale shows little alteration in quality from that offered in November, the season’s clip is considered by experts to compare unfavourably with the usual Auckland offering. The weather last winter was not conducive to a highquality clip and the prevalence of facial eczema was another factor tending to result in poorer wool. Since the first Auckland sale there has been an easing tendency in wool in various parts of the Dominion, subsequent auctions in southern centres bringing prices slightly belqw those realized when the series began. With the trend toward a slight decline experts consider that prices tomorrow will not show any increase over those of the first sale, unless there is unexpected competition from additional countries.
