ORIGIN OF SHEEPDOG TRIALS
"Who started sheepdog trials? These demonstrations of canine intelligence are now so much a part and parcel of our life that few pause Io think that someone in the past must have bad a brain-wave," says.a writer in an English-farm journal. “I see a claim has been made on behalf of the late Mr. It. .1. Lloyrl-Prjce, Bala. The idea came to him when a friend pointed.out that no show could truly represent the whole range of agricultural activity if the dogs were left out. “That was in 1873, and Mr. LloydPrice soon had a trial organized. The idea, thus born in Wales, spread rapidly to England and Scotland, and today we have the whole range, from local competitions up to the international, just completed at Southport.”
