Welcome To Delegates And Crews CONFERENCE MEETS A welcome to delegates and crews attending the Corilwcll Cup contest at PJiuimertou was extended by Mr. E. W. Burd, commodore of the Plimmerlon Boating Club, at Plimmerton last night. Mr. Burd said that the club had done everything possible to ensure the contest boilin' a success. The boys should be grateful to the men who had put in so

much time to foster the sport of yachtV.g. He said he was pleased to see that Mr. M. 'Watson, who, with his brother, had won the contest two years ago for Pliinmerloi), was acting as delegate for his club this year. His example was one that the boys should follow. They should endeavour to do something for the sport which had done so much for them. He hoped that there would be favourable weather for the contest/ The contest was one which had been fostered with the idea of developing a spirit of seamanship and had done re-, inat-kably well, said Mr. A. J. Cathie, rearcommodore of the club, who also extended a welcome to the crews and delegates.

The cup had had a remarkable history and was named after a tine lad who had given his life for his King and country, he said. The boys should think of Cornwell when sailing in the races, gtid if they did a portion of what he had done, the contest would have been well worth while. Delegates Meet. Following the welcome, a meeting of delegates was held, when there were present: —'Messrs. J, J. .McKay (Auckland), 1. Sutherland (Manukau), M, Watson (Plimmerton), J. Burrow (Pa remain), G. 11. Tanner (Wellington), L. R. Ward (Dunedin), R, Wilkinson (Tauranga), and G. Ninimo (secretary of the Plimmerton club). The delegates for Wanganui (Mr. A. Deerness), and Tauranga (Mr. T. Connor), did not arrive in time for the conference, and the place of the Tauranga delegate was taken by Mr. Wilkinson. who i» a member of the crew. “The Cornwell Cup contest is definite!.; a boys' contest, and should be ami will be controlled by the boys them,-elves as tuueli as possible,” said Mr. McKay, in returning thanks for being elected eliuitman.

Mr. Tunner complimented Mr. McKay on the manner in which the contest htul been conducted last year, when Im was chairman. It was decided to hold the first rare at 2.30 pm. today, and that each crew should retain al! its running gear, witli the exception of the main halliard, for each race.

The following officers were elected: — Chairman. Mr. McKay; secretary.' Mr. Ward; boat, inspectors, Messrs. McKay and Watson ; sail measurers. Messrs. Tanner and Sutherland: course stewards. Messrs. A. France and Watson; draw stewards. Messrs. Ward and Sutherland ; weight. Stewards, Messrs, and France.
