An audacious theft, in which a cash register in an Auckland hotel was taken from a shelf and opened near a door leading to the street, in full view of passers, by, has been reported to the police. The contents of the cash register, about £5 iu cash, were stolen. The bottle store attendant was off duty at the time of the theft, and a barmaid working in an adjoining private bar was temporarily in charge. The cash register was removed while the barmaid was serving customers at the far end of the bar.
