r pWO women in the Hebrides, the group of islands off the west coas 1 ' of Scotland, have the loneliest teaching posts in Great Britain. Tliey are Miss Dolly Smith and Misr M. B.’MacDonald. At Ardveg, on Lewis, Miss Smith lias just taken up her post. as school mistress. Ardveg is IS miles across trackless moors from the nearest Toad and live miles by sea from the nearest village.
On the island of Heisker, Miss MacDonald, of Lochraaddy, teaches five » pupils, ail MacDonalds. Heisker is often cut off from the rest of tlie Hebrides for months by storms, and radiotelephone from Monarch lighthouse Ts the only means of communication.
