Patchwork Possibilities

Quilt From Mr. Chamberlain’s “Peace” Shirt

(“Dominion” Special Service: By Airmail.)

LONDON, November 30. rpilE making of patch work quilts has been a favourite occupation with women for generations past, and there can be scarcely any kind of dress or furnishing material, scraps of which have not been used for this purpose at one time or another. But the patchwork quilt of Prime Ministers’ shirts is surelv something new. Speaking at an exhibition of 'homecraft iu London the other day. Mrs. Chamberlain told us that a certain women’s institute wanted to make such a quilt. They had asked her to help them with a contribution of Mr. Chamberlain’s shirt—the one he wore at Munich. They were not lucky in their request. It was refused, as was another of the same kind from souvenir-hunters in America. But to return for a moment to the patchwork game. Most needlewomen are content when they have made a quilt of oddments, though they might carry the same idea a great deal further'and fashion delightful patchwork curtains, cushion covers, even handkerchief sachets, linen bags, and a dozen oilier useful household articles. What about, the patchwork rug? Mrs. Chamberlain bought one at the homecraft exhibition made from old pink silk underwear and beige stockings. It is ■to go into'the nursery at No. 10 for file use of her grandchildren.
