Annual Christinas Dinner
tn the pleasant surroundings vt the gaily decorated dining hall the residents of tlie Boys' Institute, Wellington, held their nnnuiil Christmas dinner on Tliursday night. This function, inaugurated by the matron, M. Bowen, last year, is greatly appreciated by the boys, and much organization and labour go to make it successful in every way. .Mr. J. Hunter, one of the r-enior board ers, welcomed the guests of the evening'. Mr Parton. Rev. J. it. Binnehard. nmt members oi’ the committee, and expressed regret at the absence of Sir George Troup, who was unable to be present. Mr. Parton, the principal speaker, pu d a tribute to the work of the matron and said that one of the largest boys' organizations m Australia was adequately controlled by a woman. He also gave a list of rules for living successfully. The qualities necessary included good judgment. energy, ambition, imagination and courage.
Another of the senior boarders, Mr. E Murphy, proposed a vote of thanks to the matron for her services to the boys and for organizing the dinner and to the committee which financed it. The boys made a presentation to the matron.
A "arty was held in the social hall after tne dinner and a play was presented by a uumber of the residents.
