TORRENTIAL RAIN
Nearly Two Inches In Temuka In 15 Hours

CHRISTCHURCH, December 16.
Torrential rain swept over the Temuka district, starting late last night. The rain was so heavy that about 6 a.m. today it awakened residents. Till midday the fall continued unabated, water flooding water channels and pouring into gardens and dwellings. The rain was heaviest between 10 a.m. and noon and in some parts of the main street the water reached the building line, causing anxiety to shopkeepers. Shearing will be further retarded for very few sheep escaped a wetting. Haymaking has ceased in tire district and land cultivation will be stopped. Before 8 a.m. 47 points of rain fell, and between then and 3 p.m. 148 points fell in Temuka, making the total nearly two inches in 15 hours.
