Breaking-up Ceremony The annual breaking-up ceremony of the Wellington Technical College was held in the college ball last night. The elitiirrniin of Hie board of governors. Mr. W. Appleton. presided, and extended a welcome tn rhe mayor. Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, who gave a short address. In the unavoidable absence of Mrs. Hislop, the prizes and awards of the year were presented by -Mrs. Appleton. ' The director, .Mr. R. G. Ridling. presented his eighth annual report. Christmas greetings were received from the .Minister of Education, Mr Fraser. Tliose on the stage included a former director of the college. Mr. J. H. Howell, memliers of the board of governors, and the staff. Welcoming the mayor, Mr. Appleton referred to the close association the city council had always had with the technical college. It had always been a regular financial contributor, and
laken an interest in providing playing areas. At one stage eight members of ihe council had been on rhe board of
governors. Mr. Appletun congratulated the director of the college and his staff on the work of the year, and the winners of the diplomas and awards that bad been made.
Air. Hislop said it wits always a great pleasure to him to attend the technical college annual break-up ceremony, because the growth of technical education in Wellington had t>een something very closely allied to the activities of (he city council and unsurpassed in its importance to the community. The city council year by year had been able to help materially in the development of the great work of technical education in AVellington.
