I Miramar Club's Break-up
Evening
The first break-up evening of the .Miramar Esperanto Society, which was established on Decemiber 15 last year, look place on Tuesday in the clubroom, St. Aid-aii's Hull, Miramar Avenue. Mr Bertram Potts presided. .Mr. Colin Morriwon was appointed the society's dele-gate at fhe forihcoining ninth New Zeaiand Esperanto congress, to take place in Wellington on December 31, and January I and 2 next. A vote of thunks was accorded Mr. J-am-i-s E. Wells for presenting to the .•■•oeiety a bound volume of "La Kronlko,' the weekly organ of this suburban Esperanto organization. Mr. Weils exhibited a copy of a Government s-latis-'ties publication issued by Hie Naeia Instilute de •S-talistiko, Brazil. The use of Esperanio in governmental and municipal fields us sleud-ily inereiising.
A programme followed, under the direction of Mr. James Mac Kay. .Mrs. Annie .McCarthy played accordion selections for a community sing, under the leadership of Mrs. Ida Bridgman. An original Esperanto sketch b.v Air. J. .Mac Kay entitled “Surprizo por Butikisto ("A Surprise for a Shopkeeper"), was presented by Air. William Smith and the author. Air. William Guest presented two monologues, “The Lion and Albert" anil “The Return of Albert.” Air. Alex Rust played the piano aecomipaniment. Air. and Airs. James’ E. Wells took part in a sketch entitled, “Estes Alalfrue”! (“It is Late!"), written in Esperanto b.v Air. AA’clls. Air. Potits gave a short talk in the international language on the birth of Esperanto; and .presented a brief resume in English of the benefit of visitors.
