HAWERA TRACK WORK
Lowenberg Returned To
Owners
Dominion Special, Service. HAWERA, December 15. Conditions were ideal for training operations at Hawera this morning, and the plough and the outside of the course proper provided firm going. On the plough Naughty Marietta (Ryan) ran the last live of a round in 1.9. She has come to no harm from racing at Woodville. Maahunui (Chaplin) and In Command (Toki) completed two rounds of pace work by sprinting three furlongs in 40. Yesterday morning the pair were responsible for a first-class display over a round of the scchooling hurdles, Maahunui, specially, jumped faultlessly. Vivacious (Sexton) gained a slight ad-* vantage over Fiancee (Ryan) at the start of fixe furlongs, and went away in the straight to be two lengths clear at the post in 1.3. . Kokako (Cole) occupied 52 2-u tor. half a mile. ■ . ... , Dark Eagle (Frisk) and Pnm-e Quality (Cole) were not out to make time when covering six furlongs in 1.23. Amoroso (Cole) displayed his usual brilliance to record 51 for half a mile. He has not been taxed lately, and is thriving on tile light preparation. Ramleh (Farland) shaded Race Call (Fryer) at the close of five furlongs in 1.4. Ramleh has made favourable progress since Feilding, and should not be hard to place during the holidays. Race Call is very well. Lord Cavendish ■ (Cole) and Lickem (Frisk) finished on terms at the end of half a mile in 52 3-5. Lord Cavendish has made a good recovery from the injury received at Riccarton and he -should soon extend his record. • Lickem is in firstrate order. . Kilometre (Sexton), Filbert (Gnndlay), and Chief Lord (Ryan) finished in the order named over the concluding stages of three furlongs in 39. Kilometre moved freely and appears well. Filbert carried a good deal the - worst of the weights. After two unsuccessful attempts this season to prepare him for another racing campaign, Lowenberg failed to survive a thorough preparation and because of uusoundness has been returned to his owners, Messrs. T. J. and P. A. O’Neill, Wanganui. Student Prince did two rounds of steady work on the inside. He schooled over five fences yesterday and gave an excellent exhibition of fast, clean jumping.
