Without Equal Among Three-Year-Olds
DEFAULTER COMPARED WITH NUFFIELD
According to Australian critics, no Derby colt in Australia in the past two seasons has been the equal of Defaulter in height and substance. He appears to be something like his paternal grandsire, the unbeaten Hurry On, also a big horse. ■Alongside the New Zealand three-year-old champion, the Australian three-year-old elianupiou, Nuffield, .would look a pony. They may be alongside one another, too, in Sydney next autumn. Just before he won the A.J.C. Derby, Nuffield stood 15.2 hands. He had a girth of 71. inches, a rein of 4J inches, and eight inches of bone below the knee. Ae will be seen from Uns, Nuffield has a very long rein for a small horse. Jbe bi ,r ge.st three-year-old running in the classics in Australia this season has been Dimulet, height Hl hands, girth 71 inches, rein 48 inches, and bone eight inches. The others ranged in height from lo.l* to 15.3 Three only have girths of < 1 inches. ‘ They are Respiration, Sir Harold and Petruchio. The -biggest colt of the previous year was Avenger, who was 16 hands, had a girth of 72 inches, a rein of 50 mehes and eight and a half inches of bone. Ajax was 16 hands, girth 72 inches, rem 4< inches, and bone eight and a quarter inches Hua, winner of the I iCtona Derby." stood 16 hands, girth <J inelies, rein 4S inches, and bone eight and a halt in Defaulter stands 16.2} hands, has a girth of 73 inches, and a rem of 44 inches. The American champion, Se-abiscuil, stands 1'5.2 hands, and has a girth of ■- inches. War Admiral stands lo.Z*.
