OBITUARY
Mr. Arthur Tocker The death occurred recently at Lowlands, Tauherenikau, of Mr. Arthur Tocker, aged 79. Born in Featherston, he was the youngest of the 15 children of the late Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Tocker. The only surviving member is Mi'. JTocker," Kaiwaiwai. The life of Mr. 'rocker was spent in farming in or about the Featherston district. Lowlands was formerly tlie homestead o. Mr. Louis Pliarazyn. and is considered one of tlie finest farms in the Mail lira jia. Mr. Tocker was a keen supporter of the M'airarapa and East Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and was a member of tlie council till his death. lie was a breeder of Clydesdale horses, Ayrshire cattle, and Romney sheep, and his name was often found among tlie winners in those classes at agricultural shows. For a time, lie was interested in racehorses, owning Colza and Waiwareware. about 20 years ago. He was also interested in horticulture, and the preservation of -native bush. Mr. Tocker’s father was a piotH'Cr of tlie colony and the heatberston district. He arrived at Wellington in Hie Oriental in 1840. The funeral service was held at St. John's Church. Featherston, and the body was brought to Wellington for cremation at Karori Cemotery. Mr. J. A. Rhodes Tlie deatli lias occurred of Mr. John A. Rhodes. Alberton Avenue. Mt. Albert. Auckland. He was well known in Hie timber trade, having begun his career on leaving school with Hie Auckland Timber Company, which was conducted by Mr. G. Holdslnp. Mr. Rhodes was in liis early twenties when he was given Hie managership for the Kauri Timber Company of the Mansonui. Hokianga. and Whangaroa combined districts, where lie spent mauv voars supplying kauri timber for Hie loading of vessels trading to and from Australia. He subsequently joined Hie New Zealand railways service, and retired in 1923 from the managership of the Mamaku Government timber mill. Since retiring lie had lived at Rotorua and Mt. Albert. Mr. Rhodes is survived by bis wife, one son and two itrnndcbildreu. Mrs. 11. JI. Dew A resident of Mastertoil for 48 years. Mrs. Helen Matilda Dew died in her home. Dixon Street, at the age of 90. says y "Dominion” Special Service message. Mrs. Dew was born in Taita, Wellington. and was the only surviving member of the Harris family, pioneer settlers of tlie district 70 years ago. She married Mr. George Dew. Taita, and is survived by four daughters and five sons. Mr. Dew died eleven years ago.
