WANGANUI, October 18.

Of fifteen Government houses on the Fergusson Street-Grey Street - London Street block in Wanganui only five remain to be roofed. Good progress has been made by Mr. G. H. Tlie panelling in tlie kitchens is of a different design, and tlie electric light switches are recessed into the walls. Half the houses will bo supplied with electric power for cooking, and half with gas. Eleven men are levelling tlie ground, and in tlie centre of the block there will be a playing area for children. The garages will bo near this space. The houses are expected to be finished by Christmas. A ballot will bo taken shortly and some ot the tenants will be in possession by the end of December. Tenders are being called for tlie building of three doubleunit garages for tenants in the Jackson Street- Purnell Street - Smithfield Road block, and for 37 tool sheds. The garages will be let into the bank, and built of concrete. They will be eight feet by 18 feet, and the'tool sheds will measure seven feet bv seven feet. Before the end of the month a start will be made with 37 houses which are to be built on the Nixon Street-Broughton Street block at Wanganui East.
