Mr. Monk, the National candidate for Otaki, said the Labour Party would try to cloud the main issue at the election by substituting the Social Security Act for the real of Socialism versus individualism. / The speech by Colonel Ilargest was followed with close attention and his condemnation of any attempt to capitalise Christianity for political purposes received the endorsement of the meeting. He repudiated the suggestion of the Minister of Finance, Hon. W. Nash, that the National Partyvwas in any way responsible for influencing London commentators to the disadvantage of New Zealand. The speaker dealt with matters of farm settlement, the dairy industry and social security, giving the National Party’s considered opinion on them. Ha gave instances which lie said showed how unsatisfactory were the present Government’s treatment of these, particularly from the financial aspept. He referred to the statement that the election would be “dirty,” and said there was no necessity for that, and he looked to the National Party to do nothing of which it might be ashamed. A vote of thanks and appreciation to the speaker was carried by acclamation.
