NEW SEASON’S BUTTER

First Auckland Shipment Made ANOTHER IN FEW DAYS Dominion Special Service. Auckland, August 30. Tjie shipment of butter from Auckland to the London market is weir forward for the new export season, which opened on August 1. The Rangitata, which cleared port on Thursday, carried the first new season's dispatch, consisting of about 12,500 boxes, and the next shipment will be sent by the Karamea, which will be loading on Friday. This vessel will clear gradings up to about the middle of August, Last season it was not until .September - 2 that the first of the new season’s butter was dispatched. New make now going forward is being paid for by the Primary Products Marketing Department at the 1937-38 guaranteed price until the new season’s rate is declared. Then an adjustment will be made with factories to bring the payments in line with the rate fixed. No new season’s cheese has been exported yet because this produce requires longer storage to attain maturity. Early make is beginning to reach stores, and the Port Hunter, loading about September 24; will probbaly lift the first export of the season.

Considering the difficulties caused by weather, production lias made a very good start, although naturally the volume of produce reaching the stores is rather lower than the flow at this period last season. Although still very sodden, pastures are coming away in many districts, and outputs will rise rapidly once a sunny spell ie experienced.

In view of the stock position in London, the fact that old season’s butter has been cleared from stores here should exert a favourable influence upon the market, which has held very well under the weight of increasing Baltic supplies. With the harvesting season approaching in these countries, it is expected that there should be some curtailment of output because of the largely-increased milk consumption that takes place at this period.
