PROBLEMS FACED BY BRITAIN
“Almost Without Solution” WAR SCARE NEVER VERY NOTICEABLE Dominion Special Service. Waipukurau, August 30. “The war scare has never been very noticeable in Britain, although there is no doubt that many prominent men of the nation are gravely concerned,” said Mr. H. M. Christie, M.P. for Wuipawa, in ,n interview on his return to Waipukurau from a tour of Great Britain. “The whole international trouble is attributable to trade,” Mr. Christie said. “Germany lost her trade during the war, aud as a result her internal affairs were in a chaotic state. Since then every endeavour has been made to regain her markets and considerable difficulty is being experienced in this. Italy is in the same position.” Difficult problems, problems almost without solution, were facing England’s Prime Minister and his Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Christie said. “I am convinced that the only remedy for the present unrest is by multilateral agreements, which would result iu better distribution of trade,” he said. “As this would necessitate some nations giving way to others, the difficulty of the situation can be realised.” Praise for New Zealand Press. Mr. Christie paid a tribute to the standard of the newspapers iu New Zealand. He had seen most of the leading papers of Australia in tire past two years, and many in America, England, and Scotland, but New Zealand newspapers were by .far the best of any he had seen. “We certainly receive more solid news here and the papers cater less for sensationalism. I was surprised at the number of poor semi-pictorial papers in London, and it is amazing how they sell, for they are absolute rubbish,” Mr. Christie said.
